Precisely in the winter, while the days are getting shorter and the darkness is increasing, at the peak of the shortest day of the year, Chanukah arrives, when we light candles every day for eight days and add light.
Hhanukah was celebrated in memory of the Hasmonean triumph over the Greeks in 164 BCE, during the Second Temple period. It was not only a military victory but a spiritual victory as well. The Greeks tried to detach the Jews from their Judaism and assimilate them into Hellenistic culture, and the Hasmoneans worked to keep the Jewish people loyal to their tradition. On the twenty-fifth day of the month, the Hasmoneans entered the impure temple and inaugurated the altar (the word "Hhanukah" in Hebrew is: inaugurated = renewed and activated), lit candles in the Temple lamp (Menorah), and celebrated for eight days to thank and glorify God. That's where the name "Chanukah" comes from.

The candle of God = the human soul. The soul is like a candle. With a candle, you can light up and you can create fire and burn. During Chanukah, we search within ourselves, inside the rooms of our soul, what we want to burn and depart from, and what we want to illuminate. And when everyone will light up their souls, the entire world will also be illuminated.

חנוכה חג האור
דווקא בחורף, בזמן בו הימים מתקצרים והחושך מתגבר, בנקודת השיא של היום הכי קצר בשנה- מגיע חג החנוכה , בו מדליקים נר כל יום במשך שמונה ימים ומוסיפים אור.
חנוכה נחגג לזכר ניצחון החשמונאים על היוונים בשנת 164 לפני הספירה, בתקופת בית המקדש השני. לא היה זה רק ניצחון צבאי אלא ניצחון בעל משמעות רוחנית- היוונים ניסו לנתק את היהודים מיהדותם ולהטמיעם בתרבות ההלניסטית, והחשמונאים פעלו לכך שהעם היהודי יישאר נאמן לדרכו. בתאריך כה' בכסלו נכנסו החשמונאים למקדש הטמא וחנכו את המזבח (חנכו=חידשו והפעילו), חגגו את חנוכת המזבח במשך שמונה ימים להודות ולהלל את ה' והדליקו נרות במנורה. מכאן בא השם "חנוכה".

נר ה' = נשמת אדם. הנשמה היא כמו נר. עם נר אפשר להאיר ואפשר להבעיר, לשרוף. בימי חנוכה אנו מחפשים בתוכנו פנימה, בתוך חדרי נפשנו, מה נרצה להבעיר וממה ניפרד, ואת מה להאיר, וכשכל אחד יאיר את נפשו, יואר גם העולם כולו. כך חנוכה מלמד אותנו את הדרך הנכונה לחנך- להצמיח על ידי ראיית הטוב והדלקת ה"אור" של כל אחד.
